EcoDriving Month Just a Day Away

May is EcoDriving month, a month dedicated to driving in an eco-conscious manner. To help you be as environmentally friendly as possible we’ve put together some tips here at Timbrook Kia. These tips will not only make you more eco-friendly but also help you save some money at the pump.

One of the first places to look when thinking about eco-friendly driving is the only part of your vehicle that touches the ground – the tires. If your tires aren’t properly inflated you’re going to be burning more fuel than you should, so it is important to keep them properly inflated.

Idling is also a sure way to waste gas. We’re not saying shut your car off at every stop light, but if you expect to be idling for a minute or more, then go ahead and turn off your engine. Starting your vehicle does use up a small burst of gas, but that burst on modern vehicle is less than what you’d spend idling for 30 seconds. So if you let someone out to run an errand, park the vehicle and shut off then engine. Don’t sit and let the engine run because you’re wasting gas and money.

No New Kia Factory – Yet

Kia is growing faster than I think anyone ever could have imagined. With this speedy growth, you’re sure to have a few rumors flying around. One of the more recent rumors was that Kia had plans to build a second factory in Georgia.

While Kia did see a capacity shortage, it currently has no plans to build a second plant in Georgia. Right now, Kia seems to have their main focus on quality to help raise their brand perception to help them take the fight to higher end auto makers.

While Kia is saying there are no plans for a second plant in Georgia, we wouldn’t doubt it if there were plans for a new plant in the not so distant future. We’re not trying to start any rumors, but for Kia to continue its growth more plants will be needed.

Timbrook Kia is excited to see what the future holds for Kia, we truly believe it will be a bright one.

Quality and Performance: Kia’s Key Objectives

As all of you loyal Timbrook Kia supporters know, the success of our brand has exploded in the last decade, and Kia has become a world contender. This success wasn’t completely unexpected, however; it took years of hard work from everyone on the Kia team, from the top down. With the drive of the strong team and the support of the brand’s loyal fans, Kia plans to keep climbing higher up the ladder of the automotive market.

Right now, the South Korean automaker’s main goal is what it describes as an “unrelenting focus on quality.”And that’s just what you’ll find in our lineup here at Timbrook Kia: automobiles that have earned a reputation for the industry’s best reliability. In fact, Kia uses a Pilot Center that analyzes each model for potential problems before it even goes into production.

Quality isn’t the only goal, however. Kia is also focused on “performance-oriented technology.” This means we could see even stronger yet more efficient powertrains emerging in the near future. One place where we’ve already seen this is in the Forte, which is now powered by a 1.6-liter direct-injection turbo engine. We’ve also seen an emergence of hybrids (check out the Optima Hybrid) and hope to see more of those, as well as their plug-in siblings! Finally, in 2015, we expect to see dual-clutch gearboxes available on some Kia models.

Details of the Refreshed 2013 Kia Optima Hybrid Now Available

We know you have all been dying to know the details about the new 2013 Kia Optima Hybrid, and we finally have them for you!  After some slight tweaking to the electric motor and gas engine, a few sophisticated upgrades and some new styling details, the Optima Hybrid is now one of the most luxurious models in its class.

The 2013 Optima Hybrid is distinctly different than most hybrids when it comes to fuel range.  Most hybrids focus on maximizing city fuel economy, whereas the Optima Hybrid focuses on highway fuel economy.  The new base model averages an impressive 36 city, 40 highway and 38 combined.  The upgraded EX model doesn’t do quite as well, averaging 35 city, 39 highway and 37 average, but if you can sacrifice one mpg fuel economy for added comfort and luxury than it’s a great deal!

The increased fuel economy is due in large part to upgrades under the hood.  It has a more powerful gas-electric engine, getting 235 pound of torque, up by almost 40 pound feet.  The electric traction motor is bigger and gets 47 horsepower, as well as a more powerful 47 kW battery.

As far as style and sophistication, the Optima Hybrid is not lacking.  It has a sleek, smooth flowing design with a rounded front bumper and a boxy rear end.  The interior is roomy and now offers extra cargo room.  It has comfortable materials in soft tones and the EX model offers that latest navigation technology with a rearview camera.

Spooling Up for Kia’s New Kappa Engines

We have already covered the Provo Concept that Kia unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, but we didn’t really do into detail about the new cee’d GT and pro_cee’d GT. The cee’d GT and pro_cee’d GT are two new hot hatches that Kia is releasing in Europe, so we won’t have the pleasure of driving these sporty hatchbacks. However, we will be getting the life-blood behind the cee’d GT and pro_cee’d GT with Kia’s new Kappa Turbo Engines.

The cee’d GT and pro_cee’d GT are both powered by Kia’s new Kappa engines; but so will the 2014 Kia Forte 5-Door SX. This will be one of the first vehicles we see in the U.S. that will have the new Kappa engine.

Now that you know why you should care about the Kappa engines we can delve into what makes them so special. With these new engines Kia is able to not only create a significant increase in horsepower but also a nice reduction in what you’ll pay at the pump. These new engines can realize up to a 15% increase in fuel efficiency! That’s quite bit, especially when you think about it in the long run.

Below is a list of the four new Kappa Turbo Charged engines.  1.0L 3-cylinder producing up to 120 horsepower, a 1.2L 4-cylinder producing around 130 horsepower, a 1.6L 4-cylinder producing up to 204 horsepower, and lastly a 2.0L 4-clylinder producing up to 245 horsepower.

Check back with Timbrook Kia as the year goes on, as we’ll have more information as it becomes available. Later this year you should be able to take one of the 2014 Kia’s out for a spin with one of these new engines!

Say Hello to the Kia Provo

I can sum up the Kia Provo Concept in one word: wow. Kia really outdid themselves with the Provo, which their latest concept. The Provo is a coupe-style hatchback with a sleek, yet simple and muscular exterior and a luxurious high-tech interior.

Style and luxury aren’t all this concept has to offer though, to top it all off the Provo is powered by a 1.6-liter four cylinder turbocharged engine producing over 200 horsepower. The Provo will also feature smart-4WD-hybrid technology. This technology is powered by an electric motor delivering up to an additional 44 horsepower to the rear wheels when required. So with both of the motors combined the Provo is capable of producing over 244 horsepower.

The transmission is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters instead of an on the floor shifter. The benefits of using paddle shifters as opposed to a traditional floor-mounted shifter is that you can achieve much quicker shift times while also keeping more focus on what’s ahead.

Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer at Kia’s European styling base in Frankfurt, described the car as ““an emotional and muscular car aimed at delivering pure fun and performance for today’s city-based enthusiast driver who longs for the curves of the open road.” From the looks of it, and from the specs on what’s powering this beast, it sure seems like they created just that.

I know those of us at Timbrook Kia would love to take the Provo out to enjoy the curves of the open road. How about you?

Kia Gets Ready to Make Waves at Geneva

Kia is getting ready to make waves at the Geneva International Motor Show, which begins on March 7th. Kia has announced that they will be revealing a new urban concept car in Geneva, and so far all we know about the new concept are some design/styling clues.

According to a release from Kia, the new concept car will be sporting “the company’s signature tiger-nose morphing into a mischievous yet friendly grille and headlight arrangement, coupled with strong styling lines that exude speed and energy from every angle.”With as much attention as the Kia Cross GT received, and rightfully so, we’re excited to see what Kia has come up with for the urban concept car.

Also present at the Geneva International Motor Show will be Kia’s new models for European market, the cee’d GT and pro_cee’d GT. The cee’d GT and pro_cee’d GT are new hot hatches that will be sporting a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. With any luck, Kia will notice the growing market for hot hatches in the USA and we will see them on the streets one day.

At Timbrook Kia we will be watching for news coming from Geneva, so stay tuned!

Kia Unveils the Newest Justice League Model at the Chicago Auto Show

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No wait; it’s a Super-man Inspired Kia Optima Hybrid! This is the sixth Kia model to be unveiled with a superhero theme in an effort to stop hunger in Africa for the “We Can Be Heroes” campaign, in partnership with DC Comics.

The exterior of the Optima is painted Superman’s signature blue with a red roof and truck meant to be his cape and his “S” badge prominently centered on the hood. The grille has been custom designed to resemble Superman’s belt and widened fenders give the impression of strength and power, just like Superman.

Inside features the same signature colors with Superman badges on the seats and steering wheel. The seats were custom made with Superman’s unique armor design. The rear window features an elaborate Superman graphic.

Kia is planning on introducing two more Justice League models to add to the collection. One is supposed to be a Wonder-Woman themed Kia and the last one will feature the entire Justice League. Our staff, here at Timbrook Kia, can’t wait to see the last two Justice League Kia’s!

The 2014 Kia Forte

Want something to get excited about? Take one look at the all-new 2014 Kia Forte sedan, and we at Timbrook Kia guarantee you’ll start foaming at the mouth. Having undergone serious reconfiguration, the latest Forte is poised to be the compact sedan segment favorite.

The ferocious 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 173 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque on the EX model. Mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the engine exudes pure power—and efficiency. While there is no EPA estimate out just yet, the experts here at Timbrook Kia are projecting a segment-leading 32 mpg. The LX model will house a 1.8-liter engine that has multi-port fuel injection. Still powerful, this engine puts out 148 hp and 131 lb-ft of torque.

The Forte is laden with new features affecting exterior and interior design, safety, performance, and—most excitingly, infotainment. That’s right: Kia’s UVO infotainment system will be incorporated into the Forte, complete with a rear backup camera, satellite radio, and Bluetooth® connectivity.

The 2014 Kia Forte sedan will be arriving here this summer. And if that’s not enough to catch your interest, Kia is also releasing a five-door Forte hatchback, also making its way to Timbrook Kia this summer, so keep your eyes peeled!
